Carter Jandl, a Montrose FFA member and junior at Montrose High School, will be starting a summer backpack program for Montrose students this summer 2023. This program will provide food items to elementary students in need every week throughout the summer. To help finance this project, Carter applied for a National FFA 2023 Living to Serve Grant. The Montrose FFA Chapter has been awarded this grant for the amount of $1200. Carter will work with the Montrose School by teaching lessons about the importance of nutrition and food security. This will advocate for younger students to be aware of the food they eat and allow them to acquire an understanding of others’ situations. Montrose FFA members will also help in packaging the food for distribution.
