MONTROSE SCHOOL DISTRICT #43-2

SCHOOL BOARD PETITIONS

Due to the spread of COVID 19 the office at Montrose School District has been closed. Petitions for the School Board election can begin circulation on April 7, 2020. Due to the closure of the office, if you would like a petition we have several options for you to choose from.

  1. Call Cindy Christensen, Business Manager at 605-363-5001 or 605-929-0929 to make arrangements to get one.
  2. Call Mary Painter, school secretary at 605-480-0349 to make arrangements to get one.
  3. You can download one from the school website: Montrose.k12.sd.us
  4. You can download one from the Secretary of State’s website: sdsos.gov

When printing out the petition it must be front and back. Two pages will not be a valid petition.

You must have the petition notarized BEFORE you start circulating. The notaries available are Cindy Christensen, Mary Painter or Dennis Cleveland at Security State Bank 605-363-3104. Please call before you stop by at any of these three places.

Petitions must be handed in by May 8, 2020 at 5:00PM. The Business office is going to be closed so we are asking that you drop them off in the locked box at the administration door or mail them to Montrose School District. 309 S Church Ave. Montrose, SD 57048 (the postage stamp must be dated before 5:00PM on May 8, 2020. The petition must once again be notarized on the back before it is turned in. Again you cannot have someone else drop it off if it isn’t signed by you and notarized.

These times and dates must be observed and have been put in place by the legislature and carried out  by the Secretary of State for South Dakota. If the petition is not completed in full it cannot be considered. While you need 20 signatures for your petition to be valid, it is suggested that you get 5 or more signatures for a cushion.

If you have any questions please inquire to Cindy Christensen, Business Manager at the numbers above or cindy.christensen@k12.sd.us
