Some of the Welding students went on a field trip to 1st Manufacturing in Humboldt on Monday. The students learned more about the CNC side of Manufacturing.
The Ag Processing class hosted Honey Bee Workshops for all the elementary classes teaching them about all parts of the industry and including how bees make honey, what beekeepers do, and how important they are to agriculture.

Montrose was well represented at this years SD All State Choir! These students worked hard this weekend and put on a wonderful concert. Addison was also recognized as a 4 Year member!
Families and Students Read Together at Elementary Reading Night
The excitement of reading filled the gym during our Elementary Reading Night! Families, students, and elementary staff gathered for an evening focused on the joy and importance of reading together. Elementary students kicked off the night by reading alongside high school FFA members, who served as special reading buddies. Afterward, students shared stories with their parents, showing off their growing reading skills and love of books. Thank you to all the families who attended and helped make Reading Night a success! Together, we’re building a community of readers who know that every book opens a new adventure.
The MCM volleyball team will play in the Region 5A tournament on Thursday, November 6th in Montrose at 7:00pm against the winner of the Parker/Marion vs Hanson match. Here is a link to the Region 5A Bracket. Good luck Fighting Cougars!

Twenty-one members of the Montrose High School choir participated in the 2025 Big East Conference Honor Choir, held in Parker on October 20. Students from all eight participating schools spent the afternoon rehearsing together in preparation for a beautiful concert later that evening.
During the performance, senior choir members who have participated in the Honor Choir for four consecutive years were recognized and awarded medals. Montrose High School was proud to have three students among this group: Addison Gordon, Olivia Rowley, and Zaidee Huls.

Last Friday, PreK-5 was visited by The Pumpkin Man! Each year, Curt Aasheim delivers pumpkins to the elementary school students at Montrose Elementary. High school senior, Dawson Dorr, was also on hand to help pass out the pumpkins.
Our freshmen did great at land judging this year! Our team placed 3rd at the SE Region Land Judging event with multiple members receiving medals. Xander placed gold. Claire and Bennet received silver placings. Caleb, Izzy, and Connor placed bronze.

Future Fighting Cougars! 🏐 Last night we recognized our Youth Volleyball players prior to the varsity match. Great to see so many young athletes learning, competing, and loving the game!
We have a WINNER! Vern Eide accepted nominations during the month of August to recognize outstanding bus drivers with a $500 cash prize. Teachers at Montrose School heard about the contest and knew who deserved this prize. Jim Starnes who has given the school 14 years of service! He recently was notified that he was one of the recipients of the award.
Several teachers submitted why they felt Jim was worthy of this award. These are a few of the submitted accolades. “He goes above and beyond to make sure every student feels welcome on his bus.” “He has a connection with every single one of his riders and they all love him.” He is an integral part of our small-town community; from bus driving and substitute teaching, to running a wood working business that makes amazing contributions to our town and school.” “He’s as reliable as they come, always on time and ready to go.” “He is a joy to be around and loved by all.” “Jim always has a smile on his face, a friendly greeting, and a kind word.” “I can think of no individual who better represents the qualities of dedication, patience, and care than Jim Starnes.” “The kids all love him, and you will often see them running up to give him hugs!” “Driving bus is not an easy job, but Jim makes it look like it is.” “He is a kind and considerate person who just wants to help his fellow man.” “The kids all enjoy seeing Jim at the start and end of their school day!” “Jim is playful, fun, empathetic, caring, understanding, helpful, and genuinely loving to the students and our whole staff.”
